This article contains information about the fees associated with processing payments using All-Star Rec Manager.
Every payment processor, including Square, charges both a fixed and percentage fee to process credit and debit cards. Square's fees change from time to time, but are currently set as follows:
In-person card with Square Terminal: 2.6% + $0.15 per transaction
Online card: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
Online bank account: 1%, minimum $1.00, maximum $5.00
Processing fees are automatically deducted by Square before they send the money to your Square account.
Additional processing fees may be charged to your organization depending on the terms of the contract you have with All-Star Rec Manager such as for tickets and memberships. Point-of-Sale fees on credit card transactions are automatically deducted before the money is sent to your Square account. See the Uncollected Fees for Point-of-Sale Transactions section below for information on cash transactions.
You may optionally pass the cost of the processing fees along to your customers (convenience fees) for items sold online such as registration fees, tickets, and memberships. You are responsible to determine if you are legally permitted to charge convenience fees for online sales.
There is one key case where you cannot collect fees from customers for online sales: If the fee is more than 60% of the cost of the ticket then it cannot be charged to the customer. This could happen in cases where your organization gives away free tickets to customers. When this happens, two potential outcomes may occur depending on the exact situation.
If the total amount of the purchase is enough to cover the fees for free items, then the amount will be deducted from the amount you receive at the time of the purchase.
Otherwise, you will receive a bill at the end of the month for these fees.
Most cash sales completed through the Point-of-Sale are not charged fees. However, advanced ticket sales still have fees associated with them. You will receive a bill at the end of the month for these fees.
All-Star Rec Manager has an option to surcharge for in-person sales, but the organization admins are responsible to ensure that they are legally permitted to surcharge for in-person transactions since some states have laws prohibiting surcharging.
